What’s one piece of travel advice you always follow?

I love this so much, I have it as a vinyl decal on my hallway wall:
“It doesn’t matter where you go in life, it’s who you have beside you.”
Some people are fortunate enough to travel the world over, and yet, in themselves, they have neve really found their “home”. I meet people all the time on the Slowly app who have been to a great many destinations, and yet, there is a part of them that is missing — they still haven’t found someone to share those moments with.
I, on the flipside, have travelled much of the UK and have never been abroad, yet I feel as though my life is abundant with moments, memories ans experiences. Why is that so?
It’s because of the people that I have been with — my mother, my father, my brother and later on, my boyfriend and now husband.
My life has been filled with laughs, sunsets, being stuck in the car and eating fish and chips as hailstones hammered down outside. It has been setting up our “base camp”, and playing “Capture The (Welsh) Flag” with or Welsh retired friends. It has been waking up while it’s still dark outside, just to get the best spot to fish. It has been taking on assault courses in reverse, only to suddenly realise why it was so damn difficult for us, and it has been being on a train, having a man in the next carriage sneeze, and then spending my whole damn honeymoon with the flu.
And you know what? I’d do it all again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, because there will come a time when I won’t be able to make those memories anymore. There has already been times already where the last time was the last time, and it didn’t matter where I was because that place still exists, but there presence does not — their presence is now only in our memory.
Live each moment as though it’s the last, because one day, it will be.
